Nico Schankin, an experienced host, is now responsible for the newly renovated North Sea Hotel Arlau-Schleuse. As a cruise director, he has traveled the world for a long time and is now looking forward to the new anchorage: “I am excited by the task of introducing our guests to a very fresh and authentic hotel in a unique natural landscape. Our guests should feel at home and be able to really relax.”
Schankin spent 15 years at sea on board cruise ships, including eight years as cruise director. His last stop was the MS Hamburg from Plantours, before which he also sailed the world’s oceans on ships from AIDA Cruises, FTI Cruises and Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. He also has extensive experience in travel sales.
For hotel director Helge Tüxen, the new manager is an important milestone for the future direction of the hotel: “Nico Schankin is a host through and through. After the extensive renovation work, we are now getting fully up to speed together.”
“The location of our hotel in the middle of the Wadden Sea National Park is unique. Sitting in one of our beach chairs in the morning with a coffee and listening to the sounds of nature – there’s no better way to start the day.”
Helge Tüxen, who not only runs this hotel, but also the Nordsee-Hotel Hinrichsen in Husum and the Husum travel agency, has been working in tourism for over 25 years. For a long time, he had the dream of designing a special cruise according to his own ideas. In May 2023, this dream was successfully fulfilled. Now the sequel is due in May 2025:

Room cleaning is not carried out automatically, but at your request. Please report your cleaning request to reception by 6:00 p.m. the day before.
For every room cleaning that is not requested, we donate €1 to the Friedrichskoog seal station. In addition to raising howlers, the reception center takes care of abandoned and sick harbor seals on the Schleswig-Holstein North Sea coast.
