A Unique Natural Paradise
Right on our doorstep lies the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park, covering an area of approximately 4,410 km², making it Germany’s largest national park. This impressive area boasts an incredible variety of habitats—from expansive mudflats and blooming salt marshes to dunes and sandbanks.
The Wadden Sea is home to around 10,000 species of animals and plants. Notably, it plays a crucial role in international bird migration: each year, 10 to 12 million migratory birds use the area as a resting and feeding ground (right in our backyard!). Additionally, significant populations of harbor seals, gray seals, and porpoises can be found here. UNESCO World Heritage Centre
The uniqueness and ecological significance of the Wadden Sea were recognized in 2009 when it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This prestigious designation further emphasizes how valuable and worthy of protection this natural area in North Frisia is.
